TEACHING

JUSTYNA GABZDYL

My philosophy of teaching is rooted in curiosity, empathy, and artistic growth.

As both a pianist and a devoted pedagogue, Justyna Gabzdyl has cultivated nearly two decades of teaching experience across Canada, France and Poland, working with students of all ages and levels — from beginners to university music majors. Her teaching combines the technical precision of the European piano tradition with the flexible, student-centered approach characteristic of North American pedagogy.

She has taught individual piano classes at the University of Montreal, guiding undergraduate students in developing their technique, interpretation, and artistic identity. For five years, she also served as a teacher at the Quebec Music School, where her students regularly earned silver and gold medals in piano competitions and achieved high results in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and McGill Conservatory examination systems. In addition to her private piano studio — offering both in-person and online lessons — Justyna Gabzdyl has taught general music and performance classes in international and bilingual programs, including the Canadian School in Warsaw, following the IB PYP framework.

Her lessons are open to students at all stages of musical development — from those beginning their musical journey to aspiring professionals — and are offered in Polish, English, and French. She specializes in concert, competition, and examination preparation, tailoring her instruction to each student’s abilities, goals, and artistic temperament.

Justyna Gabzdyl’s teaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic approach that integrates intellectual, technical, and emotional growth. Drawing inspiration from Heinrich Neuhaus’s The Art of Piano Playing, she emphasizes the aesthetic understanding of music as the foundation for sound technique and artistic expression. She believes that piano study should nurture not only skillful performers, but also sensitive, independent thinkers capable of shaping their own artistic voices.

Her students and colleagues consistently praise her for her patience, clarity, and enthusiasm, as well as her ability to make complex musical concepts accessible and engaging. Guided by the conviction that “technique symbolizes style,” Ms Gabzdyl seeks to inspire each student to reach their highest potential — cultivating musicians who perform with both intellect and heart.
